Jim Barkeley and James Hodges day 1 of Iditarod Race starting in Knik, Alaska
907 fat bike setup for Invitational Iditarod Race

Just finished the Invitatiional Iditarod Trail Race 2013 350 ending in McGrath, Alaska.  The race began on February 24th at 2:00 pm at Knik Lake just outside of Wasilla, AK.  The Iditarod Dogsled Race began about a week after our start on the same route with the exception of a start in Willow, AK.  More details to come.

All racers completed the 350 miles to McGrath, AK.  We represented 6 countries with 23 returning veterens and 25 rookies.  Twenty nine raced on fat bikes and 19 raced on foot.

I rode a 907 bike from Anchorage. The total weight was about 60 pounds.  I have no idea over how much of the race I pushed and actually rode.  Hours were long catching naps at check points and bivies out in the bush along the Iditarod Trail.  The sled dog race followed up about a week later.  See my Facebook page for photos/albums and related stories.
